Annie Sprinkle’s Herstory of Porn

Dear Theater Producer,

Here is information about a show I performed for five years and recently retired. If you’re interested, I could possibly resurrect it for you under the right circum$tances.

Text for the Poster and Post Cards

This solo performance and film diary traces Annie’s, and society’s 30 year evolution throughout the sexual revolution. Take a trip to seven different movie theaters, where Annie will interact with the best (and worst) clips from 200+ sex films she’s made over the past quarter of a century.

Sample Press Release

Directed by Emilio Cubeiro

Herstory Poster Annie Sprinkle’s Herstory of Porn, solo performance and film diary that traces her 30 year evolution through the Sexual Revolution. This production is directed by Emilio Cubeiro, who also originally directed Annie’s infamous hit ‘Post Porn Modernist’ which played to sold-out houses (at -theater name if I’m returning to theater). Sprinkle’s Herstory of Porn opens (date) and runs through (date).

Get your popcorn! The legendary Annie Sprinkle is going to take you to seven very different movie theaters- the Pink Pussy Cat Sinema, the New Age Sex Multiplex, the Museum of Modern Art, Sappho’s Film Co-op and others where she will interact with clips from some of the two hundred movies she’s made over the past quarter of a century.

The evening comes to a climax with Annie’s newest film Teenage Mermaid Fanta-sea, interactive performance art porn which instructs the audience how to make their own sex movie.

You don’t have to like porn to love this show, which is really about personal growth, sex in society and the human body. We have come a long way baby! This performance is guaranteed to provoke thought, conversation and laughgasms. Recommended for anyone interested in sex or film making, and not for anyone offended by strong sexual content. Free popcorn at the door. (If valid).

For the past quarter of a century, Annie Sprinkle has explored sexuality in all of it’s most glorious (and inglorious) forms. She has shared her findings through filmmaking, writing, photography, teaching workshops, and performing. She’s a sex-work pioneer, an AIDS educator, an out “metamorphosexual”…and proud of it! Ms. Sprinkle was one of the first women to inspire the term ‘sex positive feminist’. Her unique work has achieved international praise, and evoked controversy, in both the underground and mainstream art/theater worlds.

  1. Light board Operator
  2. One sound technician and video operator.
  3. One person to sell souvenirs at the souvenir table. (If we are doing souvenirs)

PHYSICAL PRODUCTION

  1. There is a high quality white (not gray) projection screen center stage, which should occupy as much of the back wall area as possible. (Horizontal) Clear Visibility of the whole screen to all audience members is crucial. Screen must be very large, like when you go to the movies. No rear projection (with some exceptions). Minimum size is about 9 feet by 12 feet.
  2. Ideally floor is painted black, or subtle pattern is an option.
  3. Three to six movie theater type seats depending, on size of theater. Six looks much better in a larger theater. They must be in two rows if you use six. Seats preferably red, blue or gold velvet. (I have electronic photos of stage.) Fabric decoration treatment around screen. Preferable red, blue or gold velvet. The fabric is draped to give the feel of a movie theater.
  4. Two platforms. One for putting movie seats on. The other for standing on side of screen. Steps need to be in front of both platforms. Proportions vary depending on size of stage and screen.
  5. A couple of small platforms for Annie to sit on. These can be picked out by Annie from prop room.
  6. On a large stage, a few tall plants/trees look very nice on the sides. (Optional) Make set look like a movie theater.
  7. A cardboard cut out of Annie is used as a prop. It will need to be taped to a microphone stand. Or a wood stand needs to be made.

ELECTRIC

  1. See lighting plot. We’ll need instruments, dimmers, a dimmer board, appropriate cable and accessories.
  2. Colored gels for lights.
  3. One mirrored ball with light. (Two lights if possible, for two colors.)
  4. One long thick extension cord which is used for vibrator prop.
  5. Follow spot with pink and blue gels.
  6. Gobo patterns for lights. Annie has all of them, for American size lamps. Otherwise you will need some gobos.
    1. Water patterns for mermaid scene. For floor.
    2. Carpet pattern for opening of show.
    3. Angular floor pattern for museum of art.
    4. Mandala pattern, for new age enlightenment scene.(Like a new age church window.)

SOUND

  1. One cordless headset microphone. Good sound quality is MANDATORY and the most crucial part of the show’s success. And a back up.
  2. CD player
  3. Monitor for Annie to hear her sound when necessary.
  4. Mixer. Sound from movie needs to be varied with sound from Annie’s headset. They need to be on two separate channels.

SLIDES AND VIDEO

  1. Once Carousel slide projector with proper focal length lens as needed. Spare bulb.
  2. One high quality video beamer for VHS tapes. (Most of the show has video projections.) Plus VCR for beamer if it’s not included. For Europe try to get NTSC for better quality. The better the projected image, the better the show. I can also bring PAL tapes, but not quite as good quality.
  3. VCR and monitor for Souvenir table, if we have a souvenir table. We show a tit printing videotape loop.

OTHER

  1. One or two large banquet tables for souvenir stand with tablecloth covering. Table size will vary depending on size of lobby.
  2. Dressing room. Clean when artists arrive.
  3. A car with lots of trunk space is needed to pick Annie up from the airport. Mucho luggage!
  4. Please have a woman’s night whenever possible. (If there are more than four shows. “For women and men dressed as women.”
  5. Popcorn machine and popcorn bags or boxes. Popcorn is to be given away, or sold cheaply to members of the audience when they arrive. Popcorn is a major theme throughout the show.
  6. A bubble machine, with bubble liquid. (Crucial for mermaid scene.) This is to be hung from above the stage so bubbles float down.
  7. Polaroid Vulva backdrop for doing photos with audience after the show needs a frame made to hang the canvas from. This can be made of wood, or poles used for hanging seamless paper for photography can also be used. With clamps to hang it with.

TRANSPORTATION

  1. Plane ticket. Please reserve isle seats for Annie.

***Note: Without a working headset microphone or video projector, the show cannot go on, so please be sure to get the best quality equipment you possibly can.
