Water Makes Us Wet—An Ecosexual Road Trip Adventure

With a poetic blend of curiosity, humor, adventure, and concern, the film chronicles the pleasures and politics of H 2O from an “ecosexual” perspective. Travel around California with Annie and Beth in their blazing blue Pollination Pod, as the couple explores the current plight of water in the Golden State. ‘Ecosexuality’ is a revolutionary way of relating to the environment, and shifts the metaphor “Earth as Mother” to “Earth as Lover” to create a more reciprocal and empathetic relationship with the natural world. Environmental activism, performance art and conversations with a range of Californians are woven into the film, providing viewers with a rich mosaic of faces, facts and tales of love for water.

DUETS book launch with Annie Sprinkle, Ben Cuevas, and Beth Stephens, presented by Visual AIDS

To launch DUETS: Ben Cuevas & Annie Sprinkle in Conversation, the latest volume of Visual AIDS’ DUETS publication series, artists Annie Sprinkle, Ben Cuevas and Beth Stephens engage in a conversation moderated by Visual AIDS Associate Director Esther McGowan on art, knitting, postporn, ecosex, HIV, love, loss, risk, activism, feminism, go-go dancing, orgasms, humor, death and more. As a queer, male-bodied, HIV-positive artist, Cuevas’ work challenges viewers’ fears of HIV and helps revive a queer culture lost to AIDS and gentrification. Annie Sprinkle and her collaborative partner Beth Stephens join the conversation to discuss their longterm work at the forefront of art and performance, provoking sex-positive practices and activism as well as pollinating ecosexual art and theory around the planet.

E.A.R.T.H. Lab was invited to film parts of this peaceful protest by the organizers of the Refinery Corridor Healing Walks. It began in Rodeo, CA and ended up at the ocean in Point Richmond. This thirteen-mile walk began at the Conoco-Phillips 66 Refinery in Rodeo, CA. The walk was characterized by a love-based approach to environmental activism. On stops at refineries along the walks, leaders prayed for oil executives to find the goodness within themselves, instead of condemning them for their actions.

We will launch a road trip adventure and film it all for our upcoming film, Water Makes Us Wet! For this investigative state-wide ecosex performance art journey, we will travel in our E.A.R.T.H. Lab mobile unit (camper) with our Pollination Pod, a converted 1975 Perris Pacer camper and art installation. At each stop, in addition to documenting our performances, we will interview, converse and interact with card-carrying ecosexual artists, activists, thinkers, and practitioners, as well as any detractors. These interactions form the core of our next film, which explores the pleasures and the politics of water.

Surrender weaves together permaculture, ecosomatics, large group ritual, earth-based spirituality and artistic expression all within a sex-positive container that celebrates sexuality as a powerful source of personal, social & ecological transformation. Surrender creates a cauldron for deep connection, healing, and collective creation where life is sacred, our bodies are sovereign, and the Earth is our beloved partner with whom we collaborate to create abundance.
